Substantial evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence at the university level and a demonstrated capacity for publishable scholarship. The successful candidate will demonstrate scholarly accomplishment or strong potential for programmatic research and publication relevant to the position. Candidates with ABD status will be considered beyond the initial round of review only if the dissertation advisor confirms the candidate is on track to complete all requirements for the Ph.D. in Sociology is required for this tenure track appointment. This is an academic year appointment, with opportunities for additional Summer Session teaching likely.Ī Ph.D.
Effective teaching, scholarly productivity, and service to the university are required for retention, promotion, and tenure. Additional duties will include: effective student mentoring and advising, service to the department, college, and university, scholarly productivity, community outreach efforts and curriculum development for affiliated concentrations. Thus, applicants will need to demonstrate expertise in intersectionalities, especially related to the intersections of place, race, and culture. There’s a growing recognition on this campus, and in the discipline of Sociology more broadly, of the need to acknowledge how historical conditions (including imperialism, colonialism, and capitalism) impact our contemporary culture and sense of place. We are seeking an applicant with specializations in the sociology of youth, education, and/or mental health. The person appointed to this position will teach in areas related to their area of specialization, along with core theory and methods courses and the department’s writing proficiency course.
